Today, in our little church with no walls, nestled in a place no one ever planned to be, we began studying the Gospel of Matthew. It felt like the perfect place to start as we prepare for Christmas — the story of Emmanuel, God with us, grounding us in the season’s true meaning.
It’s the first Christmas in Nakuru for Kim and me, and my heart is full. God sent us here to create a place for those who felt they didn’t belong. A place for me, for you, and for so many who never dreamed such a space could exist. Together, we’ve built that place. Maisha Mapya.
I imagine you’re decorating your home or maybe making travel plans, getting ready for your own Christmas celebration. Here at Living Stone, we’re doing something similar, but our preparations look a little different. Our home is being readied for a new year — more students, more teachers, more transformed lives.
Even now, home visits are happening. Nearly 100 children — each with a story, each with a dream — are being welcomed into Maisha Mapya. Soon they’ll have desks, books, and a place to belong. I can’t wait for you to see their smiling faces and read their stories on our sponsorship page.
This year, God has blessed us with growth. We’ve welcomed four new teachers, two social workers, an in-house HR professional, a cook, and our Chief Ministry Officer. We’re still praying for more — a principal, assistant accountant, another social worker, an operations manager, and four drivers to help carry the load.
Meanwhile, months of hammering, sanding, and painting have brought 85 old desks and chairs back to life. Each piece now tells a story of resourcefulness, care, and the unwavering belief that every child deserves a proper place to learn and grow.
We may not always have shiny new resources, but we do have a community that knows how to make the most of what’s in our hands. Turning worn-out furniture into something useful again isn’t just about desks — it’s about giving these kids a fresh start. Every stroke of paint, every nail driven, and every sanded surface reflects the hope and love we want to pour into their lives. These desks aren’t just furniture; they’re symbols of possibility, resilience, and the promise of a brighter future.
And there’s still more to do. We’ll be working hard right up until school opens in January to ensure that every space, every supply, and every detail is ready for the students God is bringing into this ministry.
